Featured Skater: Lucas Roche

Lucas Roche is not your average 15 year old. Sure he enjoys a good game of Halo, and hanging out with friends, but one thing he does that your average 15 year old does NOT is take command of what our skate park at CSP has to offer. With a penchant for rails, and righteous flip tricks, we present you May's Featured Skater: Lucas Roche.

Calvary Skate Park: How long have you been skating, Lucas?
Lucas Roche: 4 years. About.
CSP: When was the very first time you started skating, the first time you got on a board?
LR: I was at my friend Philip's house and his sister just gave me a board when I was in like, 5th grade.
CSP: Love at first sight?
LR: Oh yeah.
CSP: Whats your favorite trick, and what is the best trick you can do?
LR: Tre flips. Best trick I can do: fakie 360 kick flips.
CSP: Who's your favorite pro skater?
LR: I don't have a favorite pro skater. Lem Villemin, he's an amateur skater.
CSP: What's your favorite thing about skating?
LR: Coming up with new stuff all the time. It never stops.
CSP: Street or vert?
LR: Street.
CSP: Regular or Goofy?
LR: Goofy.
CSP: Favorite spot to skate?
LR: Definitely downtown or UNM.
CSP: Whats your favorite part about the CSP?
LR: The rails. I love the rails, my favorite one is here.

CSP: What's the worst fall you've had skating?
LR: When I broke my knee. I went up on a quarterpipe, slipped, and hit my knee on the coping.
CSP: Ouch, what was that like?
LR: It was tough trying to get back into skating. Part of my knee was down by my shin. I was out for about two months.
CSP: What do you feel is the biggest obstacle in the secular skate culture for a christian?
LR: How easy it is to get angry and curse. If you don't get a trick or just have a bad day it becomes difficult to not cuss.
CSP:I bet that was difficult when you broke your knee.
LR: Not really, I was pretty young then.
CSP: What do you feel needs to be done to be the light in the secular skate culture?
LR: Just help people with tricks or help people when they fall. One time this guy fell on his head and had a concussion so I called the paramedics.
CSP: Intense. Do you attend SkateChurch?
LR: Sometimes, but I'm trying to get my grades up so I can pass.
CSP: What's your favorite thing about SkateChurch?
LR: The worship. It gives me goosebumps and makes me feel really good.
CSP: Where do you see yourself skate-wise down the road?
LR: I hope to be pro someday, but then who doesn't? And if I don't I just want to keep it up and have fun. I'm going to the comps ES Game of Skate, Young Guns, and All Nations here soon.
CSP: Is there anything else you want to tell everyone before we end this interview?
LR: Just thanks to everyone who supports me, and just keep it real. Most of all thanks to my family.

And that concluded our time with Lucas Roche. Stay tuned for the next Featured Skater.
